The Starting Point
ByOK here goes with the first post. The title of this blog is a little misleading right now. I’m currrently studying towards the CCVP certification. I’ve got two exams left to sit to get the certification, Implementing Cisco Unified Communications Manager Part 2 (642-456 CIPT2 ) and Troubleshooting Cisco Unified Communications Systems (642-426 TUC). I should be ready to sit the CIPT2 exam in a few weeks time and plan to finish the TUC one for the middle of June.
After that it’s on to the written part of the CCIE Routing and Switching Exam.
I started studying towards the CCVP after helping a client roll out some LANs to support IPT and VoIP systems and getting interested in the technology. I’ve really enjoyed it as its been a step away from always studying about networking. At the moment I’m helping another client to support a Cisco IPT system with over 19,000 users in total, whilst moving over from lots of legacy digital telephone systems, so the learning has been invaluable for that.
In studying towards the CCVP I built myself a voice lab using GNS3, VMWare, an old Cisco 3640 router, some voice modules, a Cisco 3550 and some Cisco hardware and software phones. I’ll hopefully post some articles on how to set up a small lab later.
